Ace Connections: Supporting Veterans Through Tennis in Plymouth Thanks to the Veterans Foundation

At Plymouth Sports Charity, we’ve spent the last year delivering Ace Connections—a powerful project that supported over 150 members of the Armed Forces community across the city through tennis and social connection.

Funded by the Veterans’ Foundation, Ace Connections ran for 44 weeks across Plymouth offering weekly sessions designed to improve physical health, reduce isolation, and build community among veterans in Plymouth.

The impact speaks for itself:

76 veterans, 52 serving personnel, and 24 family members engaged in regular activity

Sessions focused on fun, inclusion, and peer support—not competition

Word of mouth and community banners at local courts helped self-referrals grow weekly

Thanks to this project, veterans in Plymouth had access to consistent, supportive activities that improved their well-being and strengthened their connection to others. Many have stayed in touch and continue to meet up for informal games and social support.

We’ve also grown as a charity. More than 50% of our beneficiaries now come from the Armed Forces community, and we’ve officially updated our mission to reflect our ongoing commitment to veterans support in Plymouth.

Plymouth Sports Charity is proud to stand as a veterans charity in Plymouth focused on improving lives through physical activity, community sport, and peer connection. Huge thanks to the Veterans’ Foundation for making this work possible.
